The long-haul budget arm of Singapore Airlines has launched its operations in Jaipur as its third destination.Scoot started its India operations in May this year when it launched flight to Amritsar and Chennai with a Boeing 787 plane. The airline will fly to Jaipur three times a week, which would increase to four from this month end, Press Trust of India reported.”We are excited to welcome an international airline like Scoot as it opens new avenues for the public in Jaipur to fly to popular destinations. This will go a long way in boosting trade and tourism for the city making it more prominent on the world map,” Vasundhara Raje, Chief Minister of Rajasthan was quoted as saying by the agency.Other subsidiaries’ SilkAir and Tigerair also fly to India.”We are a very young airline, just four years old, but have always been interested in the Indian market. Last year, when aircraft deliveries started coming in, we have been eyeing Indian market. We started the ground work early last year to commence operations here,” Bharath Mahadevan, country head of Scoot airlines had said in a statement in May.The airline hopes to double its operations in terms of cities by 2017.In May 2014, parent company Singapore Airlines (Asia’s biggest carrier by market value) spent $319 million in buying stock in Scoot Pte, Bloomberg reported.

A vehicle is seen crashed along the Endymion parade route at Orleans and Carollton during Mardi Gras in New Orleans, Louisiana, US. Photo: AFPA pickup truck driven by a man who appeared to be “highly intoxicated” plowed into a crowd of spectators watching the main Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans on Saturday, sending more than 20 people to the hospital, police said. The truck, traveling along the side of the street open to traffic along the Mid-City parade route, struck three other vehicles, including a dump truck, before veering onto the median where a crowd of people stood watching the procession, according to New Orleans police.Five people were being treated at hospital trauma centers, and an investigation is ongoing, police said.Police immediately apprehended the pickup driver, who according to eyewitnesses interviewed by Fox television affiliate WVEU-TV appeared disheveled, glassy-eyed and under the influence of drugs or alcohol.Mayor Mitch Landrieu in a statement referred to the suspect as a “drunk driver.”Video footage from the scene showed pandemonium immediately following the early evening incident, but the Krewe of Endymion parade, the largest and most popular of numerous Mardi Gras season parades in New Orleans, continued with little or no interruption.A total of 28 people were injured, 21 of whom were taken to local hospitals, including one police officer. Seven others who were hurt declined transport, Police Chief Michael Harrison told a news conference.Local media reports said 12 people were initially listed as critically injured.Harrison said police believed the motorist who was arrested was “highly intoxicated” and was being questioned at the police department’s drunken-driving office. The Federal Bureau of Investigation in New Orleans said its agents were “coordinating with our federal, state and local law enforcement partners to determine whether a federal violation has occurred.”The Endymion parade incident was not the only one to mar Mardi Gras festivities in New Orleans on Saturday. Earlier in the day, someone’s gun went off accidentally in a portable toilet along the route of another, smaller parade, leaving one person wounded, police said.

Facebook vice president Fidji Simo told the audience of Variety’s Silicon Valleywood presented by PwC on Tuesday that the company was carefully evaluating how to increase the safety of its live streaming feature in the wake of the New Zealand massacre. “We know that we need to do more to protect people on live,” she said, while also cautioning that the company wasn’t rushing to easy solutions. One of those easy solutions would be to restrict live streaming to verified users with large audiences. Such an approach could harm minorities who often used the feature to document possible instances of police brutality, argued Simo. “They go live whenever they get pulled over by a cop,” she said. “These are normal people that go live every day, these are not celebrities.”Simo said that much of Facebook’s work these days was focused on safety and security. “This is priority number one, for sure,” she said. And while the company was still struggling with issues like how to police live streams, Simo argued that Facebook had undergone a major transition since the 2016 election. “We are fundamentally not the same company that we were a year ago,” she said. At the time, Simo was elevated to lead the core Facebook app, after previously overseeing the company’s video business. On Tuesday, Simo joked that she hadn’t forgotten about her content roots. “You don’t upend all your video and gaming roots that fast,” she quipped. Simo went on to argue that video could play a key role for Facebook to bring people together. “Entertainment is uniquely positioned to do that,” she said. Her remarks came just as Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been positioning the company on a path towards more private, one-to-one interaction in Facebook Messenger and Whatsapp, with a smaller emphasis on its legacy newsfeed. Simo argued that both would be part of Facebook’s future. “Both the town square and the living room are important,” she said.Simo said that a big focus of her organization going forward were groups and Stories, as well as new services that could be layered on top of Facebook’s public and private conversations, including Facebook’s marketplace and dating.Asked about the company’s video business, Simo said that Facebook was cautious in its investments in original content. Facebook was primarily focused on building products like Facebook Watch that made video more social, and not spending as much as Apple and others — in part because of the hefty price tag for scripted content. “It’s pretty damn expensive,” she admitted.
