(Reuters Photo)HIGHLIGHTSAlex Hales, who was snubbed from England World Cup squad, was first pick at CPL draftAlex Hales, Lasith Malinga and Isuru Udana bagged highest deals of USD 160,000 eachAhles went to Barbados Tridents, Malinga to St Lucia Stars, while Udana to St Kitts & Nevis Patriots.England batsman Alex Hales, who was dropped from the 2019 World Cup side after a failed drug test, created headlines during the 2019 Caribbean Premier League draft as he became the first player to be picked at the Gfinity eSports Arena in London.Alex Hales, along with Sri Lanka seamers Lasith Malinga and Isuru Udana bagged the highest deal at USD 160,000 each at the draft after being sold out in the first round.Hales went to Barbados Tridents, Malinga to St Lucia Stars, while Udana to St Kitts & Nevis Patriots.Alex Hales had recently failed England and Wales Cricket Board’s recreational drugs policy for the second time in his career. Resultantly, the 30-year-old had to serve a 21-day ban from cricket.Following Hales’s failed drugs test, he was also dropped from the national side and was not considered for the World Cup which is being hosted in England.In the CPL draft oorganised on Wednesday, Andre Russell and Dwayne Bravo were retained by Jamaica Tallawahs and Trinbago Knight Riders respectively, while their compatriot Kieron Pollard, who lead St Lucia Stars in 2018, shifted to his home franchise TKR.Pakistan legspinner Shadab Khan was swapped for Afghnaistan all-rounder Rashid Khan for Guyana Amazon Warriors.Rashid Khan will miss the upcoming CPL season to be a part of Euro T20 Slam which clashes with the CPL dates.Sherfane Rutherford and Keemo Paul, who also featured in the 2019 IPL, were retained by Guyana Amazon Warriors while defending champions TKR retained Sunil Narine, Colin Munro, Denesh Ramdin and Darren Bravo among others.advertisementAccording to the CPL draft pattern, teams have an option to retain or acquire a maximum of six players.
