High on Ice Festival seeks competitors

Fort St. John is getting ready for another weekend dedicated to ice and snow.The 6th annual High on Ice festival is just under a month away and the city is encouraging anyone interested to sign-up for the snow-sculpting and ice-carving competitions.The ice carving competition is open to adults only, as participants will be working with sharp tools and chainsaws. Registration costs $50 per team and will be held on Saturday, January 16th.- Advertisement -The beginner category will not be judged, but each carver will be entered to win a gift certificate. The intermediate category has three cash prizes, ranging from $400 for first place to $100 for third place.Meanwhile, the snow sculpting competition is open to teams consisting of two to four people. Children under 14 are welcome to participate, as long as they are accompanied by an adult. Registration for the snow sculpting costs ten dollars per person, and the event will be held on Sunday, January 17th.
