Wellington girls softball split in triangular to end regular season

first_imgby Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — The Wellington girls softball team wrapped up its regular season with a split against El Dorado and Valley Center Friday afternoon. The Crusaders go into post season play with a 8-12 record. The softball triangular with El Dorado and Valley Center was postponed from Monday due to stormy weather. The Crusaders won the first game against El Dorado 7-4 and lost the second to Valley Center 10-0.In the first game, El Dorado opened up a 4-0 lead in the first three innings. However, Wellington got hot late getting two runs in the fifth, one run in the sixth and then four runs in the seventh. Jade Dry drove in the go-ahead run to give the Crusders the lead. McKenna  Oathout and Shelby Hamel both singled setting Dry’s hitting them home. Taylor Zimmerman and Carlie McComb also scored in the inning.Peyton Adams was the winning pitcher allowing four hits, walking four while striking out five. In game two, Wellington was run ruled by Valley Center. The Hornets scored five runs in the second and four in the fourth, before adding one run to top off the Crusaders.Jaden Dry was the losing pitcher allowing nine hits and four walks, while striking out one.Wellington now starts post season. The Crusaders will play Mulvane at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
